Fellowship Opportunity For 3L's

The government of the District of Columbia needs talented people committed to the principles of public service to fill these roles. The Capital City Fellows Program (CCFP) is a mayoral initiative to attract May 2009 graduates with an interest in public administration, public policy, urban planning and related fields to work for the city of Washington, DC. Candidates compete for two-year fellowship appointments during which they complete four six-month rotations in different city agencies, including: the Office of the City Administrator, Department of Human Resources, Office of the Chief Financial Officer, Department of Human Services, Department of Transportation, Department of Corrections, Office of Property Management, the Metropolitan Police Department, among many others. Fellows are given unique opportunities to meet with high-level city officials and participate in educational and professional development seminars. The program prepares Fellows to meet the challenges of local government public service and develops management talent for the city.

Candidates are evaluated on their academic records, strength of their application materials, capacity for leadership, potential for future professional growth, and demonstrated commitment to a public service career.

Potential for money prize & publishing of your work ...


The Federal Circuit Bar Association is pleased to announce the 2009 George Hutchinson Writing Competition. FCBA is comprised of more than 2,500 nationwide members, who practice law in the areas that lie within the specialized jurisdiction of the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals. The Federal Circuit Court of Appeals has exclusive jurisdiction over certain defined subject areas. Specifically, the Court's jurisdiction includes appeals from all patent litigation (nationwide), Patent and Trademark Office decisions, government contract claims, International Trade Commission, Merit Systems Appeals, and Veterans Appeals.


Entries to the contest may discuss any topic that lies within the procedure, substance, or scope of the jurisdiction of the Court. Students are encouraged to base their entries on papers that they prepared for law school courses and seminars during the 2008/2009 school year. Three thousand dollars ($3,000.00) will be awarded to the entry deemed by the judges to be the best entry and to merit the award. Second and third place cash prizes may also be awarded at the discretion of the judges. In addition, the winner will receive significant favorable publicity to all members of FCBA. Submissions must be postmarked no later than June 26, 2009.

Do you have an interest in serving the homeless population this summer?

The Curtin Justice Fund Legal Internship Program is seeking motivated law student interns to apply for stipends available for the Summer 2009 Program. These students should have a secured non-paid position offered from a qualified organization. The Internship Program will pay a $2,500 stipend to three law school students who spend the summer months working for a bar association or legal services program designed to prevent homelessness or assist homeless or indigent clients or their advocates.

The ideal intern will have a demonstrated interest in public interest law and experience working with poor people or on issues affecting them. All law students are eligible and all applications must be received by Monday, March 23, 2009.

The Equal Justice Conference (May 14th-May 16th)brings together all components of the legal community to discuss equal justice issues as they relate to the delivery of legal services to the poor and low-income individuals in need of legal assistance.
