The Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association in Orlando, Florida, is looking for an attorney with 2 to 4 years immigration experience who is committed to serving the legal needs of low-income immigrants. Previous pro bono and clinical experience will be considered a plus. Immigration attorneys represent non-citizens who have been victims of human trafficking and violent crimes (predominantly domestic violence), undocumented children who have been abused or abandoned, and refugees who have been persecuted in their home country and now seek asylum in Immigration Court. Interested in New York City For The Summer?


The U.S. Court of Appeals is looking for interns for the summer. Students will work in the Office of Legal Affairs. They will work closely with Staff Counsel/Circuit Mediators and will attend and assist with the preparation for preargument conferences as well as follow-up conferences. Duties include: reviewing and analyzing cases; conducting legal research; writing legal memoranda; the opportunity to draft bench memoranda; and communicating with appellate counsel as well as other Court personnel. In addition, externs will have the opportunity to attend oral arguments and observe the workings of the Second Circuit.

Qualifications
Applicants must be in good academic standing, possess excellent research and writing skills, and be able to work independently. Must be able to work full-time starting at the end of May 2010 until August 2010.

Our goal is to provide our summer interns with a better understanding of the FDIC's role in our financial system while providing an opportunity for public service. Lower Loan Payments?


According to the Los Angeles Times, the Obama administration wants to offer more debt relief to student borrowers. In a recent article, it was noted that

As part of the White House’s “middle-class” aid initiatives unveiled today, President Obama proposed that students making payments under federal college loan programs would have monthly payments capped at 10% of income exceeding a “basic living allowance.”

That would lower the payment cap for qualified borrowers from the current maximum of 15% of income. The 15% maximum took effect in July under the government’s income-based repayment program, although some very-low-income borrowers are making no payments at all under that program.

Volunteer Positions Available


The Family Nurturing Center of Florida (FNC) is looking for student volunteers.

FNC was the first visitation center in the state of Florida. Since 1993, FNC has provided over 25,000 visitation and exchanges and 10,000 parenting classes for first coast residents. In 2008, FNC provided 3,466 visitations, exchanges, and parenting contacts.

Students will meet with participants on an individual basis to complete orientations for services. You will ensure participants understand the contract for services and release of information, and answer questions regarding program operations. You will ensure participants are able to use the web-based client file system.

Students will be expected to represent the Family Nurturing Center programs from a general perspective in domestic violence injunction hearings. You will need to have familiarity with program services and policies and procedures, and will provide answers to questions regarding process (not case specific). Students should also be prepared to advocate for FNC as the designated visitation and exchange provider (i.e. redirect movement from base exchanges, etc.)
